Bielefeld, DE
aconso is the leading document management system for HR in Europe and the inventor of the digital personnel file. From Deutsche Bahn to Lufthansa to Porsche, some of Europe's most recognised enterprises trust aconso to digitise and streamline their HR document workflows. We are looking for a Technical Product Owner to take ownership of our Platform domain, the enabling backbone that empowers every product domain at aconso. In this role, you will shape the technical roadmap, drive automation and self-service initiatives across Engineering, and report directly into the VP of Engineering. If you thrive at the intersection of technology and product strategy and love turning complex technical challenges into structured, data-driven plans, we'd love to hear from you. This job can be done form our location in Berlin or Bielefeld.
Technical Product Owner (m/w/d)
Your responsibilities
- Own the product vision and roadmap for aconso’s Platform domain, the central enabling team that provides foundational services, tooling, and infrastructure to all other product domains.
- Identify, create, kick off, and manage technical initiatives that drive automation, self-service capabilities, and developer productivity across the Engineering organisation.
- Translate business and engineering needs into a coherent, prioritised technical roadmap with clear milestones and measurable outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with the Platform Engineering Delivery Lead, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to align platform investments with company-wide objectives.
- Establish and maintain transparency through data-driven reporting on initiative progress, platform adoption, and key performance indicators.
- Report directly to the VP of Engineering and actively contribute to engineering leadership discussions and strategic planning.
What You Should Bring
- Proven track record (3+ years) as a Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, or similar role, ideally within platform, infrastructure, or enabling teams.
- Intrinsic motivation and the ability to manage multiple initiatives and workstreams simultaneously in a highly senior, technically skilled environment.
- A structured mindset with strong expertise in creating project plans, initiative proposals, and PDLC documentation grounded in facts and data rather than gut feeling. Excellent communication skills; you can distil complex technical topics into clear narratives for both engineering and business audiences.
- Experience working with agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe) and modern product discovery techniques.
- Hands-on experience using Generative AI tools (preferably Claude) to optimise, automate, and augment your own workflows; you see AI as a force multiplier and actively look for ways to integrate it into your daily work.
- A collaborative, ownership-driven attitude: you proactively remove blockers, facilitate decisions, and hold yourself and others accountable for outcomes.
- Professional working proficiency in German; you can follow discussions, understand technical context, and converse with colleagues and stakeholders in German (full fluency is a plus but not required).
Nice-to-Haves:
- Prior hands-on experience as a Software Engineer, DevOps/Platform Engineer, or in a comparable technical role - you understand the daily reality of the teams you serve.
- A high-level understanding of common programming languages, frameworks, methodologies and tooling such as Java, Spring Boot, CI/CD, REST APIs, PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, observability tooling and/or AWS cloud services.
- Relevant certifications such as CSPO / PSPO (Scrum Product Owner), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, AWS Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect, or ITIL Foundation.
- Experience in a SaaS / B2B enterprise software environment, ideally with an understanding of compliance-driven industries (e.g. HR, finance).
What we offer
- Look forward to a friendly, collaborative environment in an innovative setting, an informal “first-name” culture, and regular team events such as monthly team breakfasts, summer parties, and Christmas celebrations.
- Work at centrally located offices with modern equipment and enjoy coffee, tea, and more.
- Grow both professionally and personally with the support of our training and development budget.
- Benefit from the support of a buddy during your probation period, who will also invite you to lunch on a monthly basis.
- Take advantage of subsidies for company bike leasing, Urban Sports Club, and our company pension scheme.
- Stay flexible with your working hours, decide for yourself if you’d like to work remotely several days a week, and combine work and travel through our workation offering.
